MINERALBAD & SPA SAMEDAN

This mineral bath and spa in Samedan can be reached by car in just a few minutes; it is 4 villages away from Zuoz.

The building is located right next to the church and looks inconspicuous from the outside, only the colourful tiles around the windows offer a hint of the interior: Each area of the spa is designed in a different colour and so there are lots of different bathing spaces to suit your mood and taste. These bathing spaces are spread over several floors, one starts on the ground floor and then proceeds upwards to the open-air pool at the top floor. The spa is supplied with sulphurous healing water from its own spring.

For anyone interested in learning more, there is the Caferama, a museum dedicated to coffee. From the history of the discovery of coffee and how it came to the Engadin, to the cultivation, processing and effects of coffee, everything is presented in detail. If you want, you can even create your own coffee blend there.

THE ST. MORITZ DESIGN GALLERY

The “St. Moritz Design Gallery” culturally enriches the Serletta car park between the train station, the lake and Badrutt’s Palace Hotel. Along the pedestrian passage from Badrutt’s Palace Hotel down to the lake, there are 31 large illuminated showcases, in which several exhibitions with particularly valuable posters and historical photographs are held every year.

This creates an art gallery that is open 365 days a year and presents current topics to around a million passers-by per year in a mirror of the past.

GOLF

The Engadin Golf Club with its two branches in Zuoz-Madulain and Samendan is the oldest golf club in Switzerland and can therefore rightly call itself the “Home of Swiss Golf”. The golf course with its beautiful Alpine backdrop will surely leave nothing to be desired.

In addition to the golf course itself, there is also the Engadin Golf Centre, where young and old can take golf courses. In winter, you can practise your golf skills with the indoor golf simulator. If you want to buy golf equipment, you can do so in the Willy Sport golf shop. The Sur En restaurant caters for hungry golfers.

INLINE SKATING

The “La Plaiv Skate” inline skating route (Switzerland Mobile Route 333) runs for 8.6 kilometres through the countryside from the villages of La Punt to S-chanf. The route is located away from road traffic and is mostly level.

The tour starts in La Punt, after which you cycle down the valley, usually with a tailwind. The starting point is the “Krone” tavern, which is located directly on the river Inn. The skating route leads through the landscape of La Plaiv, past Madulain and on to Zouz. If you wish, you can end the tour there. In that case, you can use the changing rooms and showers at the Zuoz cross-country skiing centre.

If you want to go further, follow the route to its end point in S-chanf. By the way, it is particularly challenging if you skate back along the route, as you are now travelling through the valley uphill.

BIKE & E-BIKE, INN CYLE PATH

If you like cycling, we recommend the beautiful river Inn cycle path. The Inn flows through Grisons (Graubünden) in Switzerland, through Austria and on to Passau in Germany.

The cycle path starts in Maloja in the Engadin and initially runs past several lakes. It passes St. Moritz, Samedan and La Punt, among others. From La Punt, the cycle path then continues along the Inn, via Madulain, Zuoz, S-Chanf and onwards via Zernez to the Swiss-Austrian border. How much of the route you want to cycle is of course up to you. In terms of difficulty, this cycle route is easy to moderate.

SKIING

The Zuoz skiing area is suitable for beginners to advanced skiers, but it is particularly suitable for families with children. There are 5 different lifts to choose from. In addition to downhill skiing, cross-country skiing is of course also possible. For the latter, there are even 4 designated dog trails where you can take your faithful friend with you. No lead is required, of course.

If you need a little more skiing instruction, you can take lessons at the ski school in Zuoz. Ski equipment can be hired or bought at the cross-country skiing centre.

TOBOGANNING

As a family-friendly ski resort, Zuoz naturally also includes a toboggan run.

The best place to start is at the Chastlatsch chairlift. This is specially secured for children, so that children from the age of 4 can use it on their own. The lift ride ends at the mountain hut with the Pizzet restaurant and the toboggan run starts right next to it. From there, the piste descends 1.5 kilometres into the valley.

SKATING

How about ice skating instead of skiing? There are several options.

One is the Madulain ice trail, which starts in the neighbouring village of Madulain. The path is 2.5 kilometres long and leads through the snow-covered Engadin landscape, always along the river Inn, from Madulain to Zouz. Use of the ice trail is free for children.

Another option is to skate on the Purtum ice rink in the centre of Zuoz. The ice rink is open from mid-December to mid-March and is floodlit in the evening in February. Fun for young and old!

VAL ROSEG

We love the Engadine landscapes and one of the most beautiful can be found in the alpine quiet zone of Val Roseg, this was once covered by meters of ice and snow. An idyllic valley with numerous plants, forest and a stream, which in winter becomes a beautiful snowy wonderland. Thanks to the many benches along the way, you can always rest and simply enjoy the view.

The way to the hotel restaurant Roseg Glacier is about 7 km long and you can also get there comfortably with a horse-drawn carriage or with cross-country skis.

A hike takes about 2 hours (difficulty: medium).

Walk through Sils Maria

The beautiful village of Sils Maria has inspired many writers and artists, such as Nietsche, Dürrenmatt, Kästner, Chagall, Strauss and David Bowie. But this is not the only reason why it is recommended to visit the village, because it is simply a pleasure to walk through its small streets with typical Engadin houses to Lake Sils and on the peninsula. The landscape around Sils is even more impressive in winter when everything is white.

If you need a coffee break to warm up or a small snack to fortify yourself, the Grond Café is the place to go.

CARRIAGE RIDE TO VAL FEX

Suitable for all ages.

Visiting the Fex Valley is a must, because the landscape is fabulously beautiful and great to enjoy with a carriage ride.

On the village square of Sils Maria there are several carriages ready to take guests to Val Fex. When you get there you can eat in one of the restaurants or stop for coffee and cake and then take the carriage back or enjoy nature a little longer with a leisurely walk.

We recommend the restaurant Chesa Pur, the first vegetarian restaurant in the Engadin.

BERNINA EXPRESS

Suitable for all ages.

With the Bernina Express or simply with the RhB to Puschlav or even to Tirano (Italy). The train journey over the Bernina Pass is simply breathtaking: This panoramic train travels through the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rhaetian Railway, past glaciers and down to the palm trees of Poschiavo.

Its route is certainly one of the most spectacular in the European Alps: It passes through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges from Chur to Tirano, including a 65-metre-high viaduct. The train passes several highlights such as the Montebello curve, the Morteratsch glaciers, Lago Bianco and the Brusio circular viaduct.

A journey on the Bernina Express is a real treat: just sit down and enjoy the spectacle.

WINTER HIKING

Is there anything more beautiful than a winter hike in the Engadin? The snow-covered mountain landscape is simply magical. In the Engadine, fantastic natural scenery is included in every route.

From St. Moritz to Bever

Hiking between St. Moritz and Bever means immersing yourself in a white and quiet winter wonderland. A short walk across the frozen St. Moritz lake (45 min.) is an experience, but for those seeking peace and quiet, the Val Bever is ideal. This enchantingly secluded side valley starts just behind Bever and offers a hike along the Beverin stream over snow-covered plains and through mystical winter forests (90 min. each way). Away from the surrounding ski areas, you will not only find the longed-for tranquillity and (with a bit of luck) deer, but also a 100-year-old, original French bowling alley in the “Spinas” inn.

Lake path St. Moritz – Sils – Maloja (SchweizMobil Route 313)

Difficulty: medium

From the St. Moritz cross-country skiing centre, the trail leads to the Olympic ski jump, then on to Lej Marsch, an idyllic mountain lake in the middle of the forest. From there the trail descends to the Lej da Champfèr. Walk along the left bank to Surlej and along Lake Silvaplana to Sils. If you still have energy, continue across the frozen Silsersee to Isola or Maloja. Winter hiking in the middle of the frozen Engadine lake landscape! When Lake Silvaplana is frozen, the route leads across the lake between Silvaplana and Sils.

Duration: approx. 4 hours (17 km)

Morteratsch (SchweizMobil Route 314)

Difficulty: easy

The starting point is the Morteratsch railway station (? 46.45090, 9.94041), which can be easily reached by car or train. The Morteratsch Glacier Trail then leads guests on an easy path directly to the glacier tongue of the third longest glacier in the Eastern Alps. An educational trail provides information on the retreat of the glacier.

Duration: approx. 50 min.

Capricorn Promenade

Suitable for families with small children:

Difficulty: easy

On the ibex promenade starting from the Sta. Maria church in Pontresina, a winter hiking trail of one kilometre in length, children and adults receive entertaining information on the character of the animal, its habitat and its distribution at seven information pillars. The promenade is accessible all year round. If you are lucky, you can observe these fascinating animals there in May.

Duration: approx. 25 min.

Snowshoe Hiking on the Muottas Muragl Hiking Mountain

Difficulty: medium

The Muottas Muragl is mainly visited because of the breathtaking view of the valley and the lakes. In winter, many people also like to go sledging there, but a snowshoe hike from there is also recommended:

It only takes a few steps from the hiking trail out into the untouched nature to be surrounded by complete snow silence. Beginners are best advised to follow the easy and thus blue-marked circular trail, which leads from and back to the mountain station over 3.1 km into the landscape. A somewhat more challenging (red) variant and a black-marked trail of around 7 km for experienced snow tourers also invite you for a hike. The panorama restaurant of the Romantik Hotel at the mountain station is the perfect place to celebrate the end of a wonderful day with a romantic sunset.

Duration: approx. 1:20 h

ZUOZ

The village of Zuoz consists of many well-preserved traditional Engadin houses and is definitely worth a visit. The centre of the village is the well-preserved village square with the Bärenbrunnen (bear fountain). This is the starting point for regular guided tours of the village, where you can learn lots of interesting facts about Zuoz’s past and present.

ST. MORITZ DORF

Suitable for all ages.

The center of St. Moritz may not be large, but it offers a good opportunity to take a leisurely stroll through the old streets, do some shopping and stop for a coffee and cake. For this, we recommend the Hanselmann confectionery. This has been in business since 1894 and is a traditional Swiss confectionery.

BRIDGE PUNT OTA

Suitable for all ages.

If you are going to Pontresina, we recommend a detour in the direction of the train station to the old Punt Ota bridge, which is located directly under the new Berninabach bridge, the connection between the train station and the village. From this bridge you have an incomparable view of the imposing gorge of Pontresina.

LAKE ST. MORITZ

Suitable for all ages.

Our recommendation for those who are in St. Moritz for the first time is to visit Lake St. Moritz or Lej da San Murezzan in Rhaeto-Romanic. In summer you can enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake (40-60 minutes) with a beautiful view of St. Moritz village and in winter you can also walk across the frozen lake or skate on it on the approximately one kilometer long ice rink, which is prepared daily for skaters. A cross-country skiing track also runs across the lake.

But this is not all: If the situation allows it, you can also look forward to an ice hockey field, a curling field and a small village with deck chairs, beach chairs, music and food stalls. In addition, skijoring lessons are on the program. Skijoring is a winter sport in which a skier is pulled by a horse on a rope. It is a decade-old tradition on Lake St. Moritz and is celebrated at the annual horse races.

Every winter, well-known events also take place on the frozen lake: the White Turf and the Snowpolo Tournament.

LAKE SILVAPLANA

Suitable for all ages.

It is well known that there are many lakes here in the Engadin and Lake Silvaplana is the most popular for water sports enthusiasts, although it is not supervised. Practice of various sports activities at your own risk.

The requirements for the passenger are a normal physical condition and a body weight of 30 kg or more.
